Ray Baxter founded this firm in 1978. Mr. Baxter was born on August 12, 1952 in Lake Village, Arkansas, and grew up in nearby Eudora.

Mr. Baxter graduated Cum Laude from Louisiana College in 1974, earning a Bachelor’s in History and Speech with a minor in English. Mr. Baxter entered law school at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in the fall of the same year. For economic reasons, Mr. Baxter transferred to the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law in Little Rock. Mr. Baxter held a full time job as an insurance adjustor for USF&G while attending law school at night. He graduated from UALR William H. Bowen School of Law in December of 1977, and was admitted to practice law in February of the next year.

Mr. Baxter chose Benton as his home and place of business and entered into private practice in May of 1978, and he has never been sorry. He is proud to have called Benton home for the last 37 years and as has consistently served Saline County and its residents during those years. Mr. Baxter served as Saline County Juvenile Judge from 1978 to 1982, as the Secretary and later Chair of the Saline County Democratic Party from 1980-1992, and on the Benton City Council from 1995-1998. He was twice, by two different Governors, appointed Special Justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court (Clinton-1991, Tucker-1993).

Mr. Baxter has handled just about every kind of case involving legal matters, with only a few exceptions, across the State of Arkansas. Likewise, he has tried a number of cases in Saline County, as well as other areas of the state, with one of his cases setting the record as the largest single plaintiff recovery in the history of Arkansas at the time, totaling $7.6 million. The case was later affirmed by the Arkansas Supreme Court. (Ford Motor Company v. Dean Estes Massey, 1993)

Mr. Baxter has always maintained an active and successful appellate practice. Mr. Baxter’s career has centered on his clients. He is not afraid to take a case all the way to the jury if necessary. Besides helping his client’s in their time of need, taking cases to trial is what he loves the most about practicing law.
